The Federal Road Safety Corps Commander of Abia State Sector Command, Paul Ikechukwu Ugwu, has informed Nigerians of the dangers of selling off their cars with their number plates, saying number plates ought not to be transferrable.
The Corps Commander in an interview session with journalists in Umuahia, said with the new number plate registration that is linked with one’s biometrics, it would be risky to sell off cars with the plate number.

According to him, if a crime is perpetuated with any vehicle, the act would be traced to the person whose original information is on the data base of the vehicle/Number plate registration, advising Nigerians to always take off their vehicle number plate anytime they want to sell their vehicles.
“Your Number plate is attached to your biometrics,so it is not transferrable”,he said.
The Sector Commander while addressing the issue of road crashes during the yuletide,called on road users to obey all traffic rules,so as to have a safe Christmas.
He said Abians should be patient when using the road, avoiding any form of rush or overspeeding while on the road, stating that most road crashes were caused by reckless driving.
The Abia Sector Commander further decried the attitude of Abians towards traffic rules, lamenting that most vehicles are not road worthy.
“Many road users in Abia state do not have fire extinguisher, they dont obey zebra crossing and they do not know how to use roundabout”.
He said road users should guide against indiscriminate parking, overtaking from a bend and as well, avoid overtaking when climbing a hill.
Sector Commander Ugwu, however,warned that the FRSC has mapped out punishment for road offenders, stating that any road user who beats traffic rules would be apprehended and brought before a mobile court.
While urging Abians to go for the proper registration of their vehicles, as well as, endeavor to acquire the new number plate, said in the case of car theft,it is only vehicles with proper documentation that can be recovered.
He further commended the Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for helping to decongest the traffic gridlock at the Osisioma junction through the construction of the Osisioma flyover, stating that the command would constantly deploy its men to key areas that need  attention.
