The Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representative, Mr Levinus Nwabughiogu, has described the Peace in South East project (PISE-P), recently launched in the South East, as best approach in curbing security challenges in the region.
The South East region which is currently faced with enormous security challenges, received the launch of the PISE-P initiative,a non kinetic approach, formed to address the intricate socio-economic challenges and security threats prevalent in the South East region of Nigeria.
In an interview with Newsmen shortly after the initiative was launched by the Nation’s President, Sen Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu, said the South East region has never witnessed the coming together of political juggernauts, from the Presidency to Local Government Area chairmen, to chart a course of peace in the region.
Nwabughiogu described the Peace in the South East Project as a noble initiative that would help address the protracted sit-at-home order in the South East, adding that the initiative would put a stop to the close down of commercial centers, markets, schools and other forms of vehicular restrictions on mondays.
He stated that though the agitators of the mondays sit-at-home may have good intentions for the region, but are wrongly carrying them out, causing economic downturns in the area.
According to him, the Deputy Speaker observed with dismay how the South East was militarized, hence the need to pursue PISE-P, a non kinetic means of reconciling and resolving the security challenges in the area.
The Chief Press Secretary added that the project was a very important one, not just to the South East region but the nation at large, hence the array of dignitaries that graced the occasion.
In his words,”Notable Nigerians converged on Bende to witness this occasion because of its importance to the nation’s coexistence. South East is a very important region in Nigeria. You cannot ignore the South East, else other geopolitical zones will suffer.
“We are calling on everyone to come together and embrace peace. We are not craving war but peace”.
Nwabughiogu, noted that the PISE-P initiative, however, connotes the stop of the mondays sit-at-home in the South East, with the opening of schools, markets, as well as, lifting the restrictions on inter-states movement every monday.
“We have collectively decided that peace will reign in the five South Eastern states of Abia,Anambra,Ebonyi,Enugu and Imo.
“With peace, we can move our region forward. Economic activities will shore up, there will be employment, education excellence and massive development”, he said.
The CPS further urged South Easterners to support the project to restore peace and also stimulate development.
