He revealed how, upon assuming office, he discovered a bylaw stating that traders should pay a ₦5,000 fee to register disputes with the market administration.
However, under the previous leadership, this fee had been grossly inflated to as much as ₦15,000 or more, depending on a trader’s financial capacity. Determined to put an end to this exploitation, he immediately reinstated the original ₦5,000 fee and insisted that any amendment to market policies should prioritize the welfare of traders rather than serving the selfish interests of market executives.
One of the greatest challenges that plagued Ariaria Market was its recurring flood crisis, which severely affected businesses and cut off entire sections of the market from customers.
MC Boss recounted how he took it upon himself to tackle the problem, even in the absence of state government intervention at the time.
To the shock of many, he personally brought in an excavator to create proper drainage channels and combat the flooding issue. His bold decision, initially met with skepticism and ridicule from fellow executives and traders, eventually proved to be a game-changer. The once-neglected areas of the market that had been inaccessible due to flooding suddenly began witnessing a surge in business activities.
“I can proudly say that I am the first chairman in the history of Ariaria Market to bring in an excavator to address the flood problem,” MC Boss stated, emphasizing that the move transformed trading in the market long before the new Abia State Government came into power.
While speaking on the current leadership of Ariaria Market, MC Boss expressed confidence in the capabilities of the new chairman, Deacon Michael Ogbonnaya Aniorji. MC Boss recalled how, during his tenure, he championed the fight against unjust levies imposed on petty traders who sold goods worth less than ₦20,000. He revealed that such traders were being forced to pay over ₦270,000 annually in levies, while those with goods worth over ₦1 million paid less than ₦100,000. He urged the new leadership to maintain fairness and transparency in market administration.
Turning his focus to governance in Abia State, MC Boss praised Governor Alex Otti for his unprecedented achievements, particularly in road infrastructure. He acknowledged that prior to Otti’s emergence, Ariaria Market suffered from poor access roads, with major routes like Umuode and Ogbonnaya Road being in terrible condition, leading to severe flooding.
He lauded the governor for taking decisive action, stating that the ongoing reconstruction of Umuode Road, once completed, would permanently solve 70% of Ariaria’s flood problems.
“For a governor to achieve this within two years, imagine what will happen in four years,” he remarked.
Furthermore, MC Boss debunked the claims by detractors that Governor Otti would resort to looting state resources to recover campaign expenses. Instead, he noted that Otti had shocked many by delivering on his promises, proving that his governorship was a divine calling to bring good governance to Abia State.
MC Boss concluded by urging all traders and residents of Abia State to rally behind Governor Alex Otti. He emphasized that unlike past administrations that thrived on excessive taxation, Otti’s government prioritizes the well-being of traders, focusing on infrastructural development rather than imposing financial burdens.
He also pointed out the growing cross-party support for Otti’s leadership, stating that even opposition members were now aligning with the governor’s vision.
“If you can’t beat them, you join them,” he added, suggesting that Otti’s re-election bid in 2027 would be unstoppable due to his remarkable performance so far.
