Engr Ogbonnaya Abarikwu Lauds Reps Deputy Speaker, Kalu for Attracting Two Federal Institutions To Abia
The 2023 APGA Candidate for Umuahia/Ikwuano federal constituency, Engr Ogbonnaya Abarikwu, has lauded the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu, for sponsoring the bill establishing two federal institutions in Abia.
The bill which was signed into Law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently, would have Abia getting the Federal College of Education, Bende and the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Item Bende, Abia State.
In an interview, Abarikwu also commended Kalu’s efforts in lobbying for the Federal University of Technology in Okigwe, Imo State, describing the initiatives as strategic moves toward revitalizing the educational landscape of the South East.
Abarikwu disclosed that the Institutions in Abia and Imo would provide quality education, facilitate cutting-edge research and address the educational needs of the region.
According to Abarikwu, the Federal College of Education in Bende when established would provide full-time courses and training in disciplines such as technology, applied sciences, commerce, arts, social sciences, humanities and management, adding that the college would also conduct research in technological adaptation and development, with provisions for administrative structures including a Provost and other key officials to ensure effective governance and discipline.
On the University of Medical and Health Sciences, Item, Abarikwu highlighted that it would offer robust undergraduate and graduate programs in various health-related fields, promote medical research, and contribute to health policy and service delivery aimed at improving healthcare outcomes in the country.
Essentially, he added that the University would improve human health and well-being through education, research, and service delivery.
The APGA Candidate further appreciated the Deputy Speaker for his prompt and impactful actions, noting that they reflect a commitment not only to his immediate constituents but also to the broader development of Abia, the South East and Nigeria at large.
Recall, that the Deputy Speaker had disclosed that the establishment of the institutions would mark a significant milestone in promoting education and development in the South East region and urged the people of the South East to continue supporting the Tinubu-led government, promising more democratic dividends.
