The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Abia State, has reacted to the resignation of the former Deputy Governor of the State, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu from the PDP, stating that the exit of members should form a strong bond within party members.
In a Statement signed by the State Working Committee of the Party, led by Elder Abraham Amah, the party said the exit of any member, no matter how long they have served, should inspire them to strengthen their structures, broaden their appeals, and rededicate themselves to the service of the people.
Reacting to the resignation of Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, which the Party disclosed was received with a clear conscience, commitment to truth, and conviction in the ongoing mission to strengthen the party, acknowledged that the decision of the former Deputy Governor to leave, was viewed as an opportunity for renewal within the various ranks.
“Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu has enjoyed the support and platform of our great party for two decades. He served twelve years in the Abia State House of Assembly, including four years as Speaker, and eight years as Deputy Governor. During this period, he held positions of significant responsibility, including the management of the state’s Internally Generated Revenue for eight years. However, the expected progress and development that should have accompanied these opportunities did not materialise in a manner that truly reflected the resources and trust placed in him.
“In his home local government area, Ohafia, the record of tangible achievements has been abysmal. The expectations of the people in terms of infrastructure, empowerment, and political legacy remain largely unfulfilled. While some leaders were able to attract projects and initiatives to uplift their communities, his tenure was more notable for political loyalty than for visible results.
“The scriptures remind us in Luke 13:6-7 that a tree is valued for the fruit it bears. Leadership is measured by the positive impact it leaves behind. In this regard, we believe his departure presents the party with an opportunity to usher in new energy, fresh ideas, and leaders who will be more responsive to the needs of our people.
“It is important to state that the reasons cited for his resignation are his personal decision to escape political irrelevance and pursue a seat ambition elsewhere. Nevertheless, our focus is on the future. We encourage our members in Ohafia and across the state to see this as a moment to open the space for new leadership that will foster inclusive growth, fairness, and tangible development”.
The Party further revealed that it is committed to a process of renewal. As Isaiah 43:19 says, “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth. We believe that with this change, new possibilities will emerge for our party and for the good people of Abia”.
The Party also called on all members to remain steadfast and united and committed to service.
