The President of the Niger Delta Youth Peace Builders, Comrade Chibuike Emmanuel, has decried the devastating flood facing the people living in Aba Abia State, calling on Abians to use the 2023 polls to elect leaders that are development driven.

The flood which resulted from a heavy downpour experienced in Aba on the 20th of October 2022, is a far cry from what should be the reality of the Aba area of Abia State, which also is the commercial nerve center of the State.

It could be recalled that The World Bank approved N27.4b for the “Aba Emergency Flood Mitigation Works for Uratta and Umuagbai Flood Plains”, which is to date their biggest singular intervention in Nigeria, which had the construction of an underground tunnel along Uratta and Obohia roads to move storm water from Uratta and Umuagbai ponds to Aba River,as part of their scope of work.

The Niger Delta Youth Leadr pointed out that reconstructing major roads alone without properly channeling storm water would continue to be a disservice to the people, as it would only be a matter of time, the road would be washed away by erosion menace.

He stated that the gory flood being experienced by traders further put that the Governor did not keep to his promises to the people of Aba and Abia State and as well, has not put to use the with the over ₦20b released for this purpose.

Comr Emmanuel, however, stated that though Abians may not be able to recover the funds, but could rise and vote a man of integrity who has the ability to restore the confidence of donors and investors in the State for infrastructure and development to come to Abia, adding that no other Governorship candidate could do it better than High Chief Ikechi Emenike, who he described as the most capable and trusted technocrat with national and international goodwill needed to attract dividend to Abia State.

He called on Abians to rise up and say no to godfatherism and installation of stooges who are not prepared for governance.
