The Abia APC Renaissance Group has raised concerns ahead of the scheduled visit of the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
In a statement signed by Comrade Udeagha Agbayi, the group noted that Governor Otti’s planned visit comes at a time when he is allegedly politically stranded, following his suspension by the Labour Party. The group stated that despite several overtures from APC leadership urging Otti to return to the party, he declined, only to now move from pillar to post seeking political refuge.
While acknowledging that they cannot dictate to the APC or the President, the group urged President Tinubu to seek answers from the Governor on several issues they described as critical to the development and transparency of Abia State.
Among the questions raised were:
- N85 Billion School Renovation: Why public schools in the state still look dilapidated despite claims of massive spending on renovations, especially when neighbouring South-East states are rolling out modern smart-school infrastructure.
- Revenue Utilization: Why the state has not executed any iconic or life-changing project despite receiving over N1.4 trillion in cumulative revenue, and why the governor reportedly continues to operate from his country home despite spending N88 billion on governance.
- Minimum Wage and Pensions: Why Abia has yet to fully implement the national minimum wage, leaving workers earning below N77,000, and why pensioners and retirees are still owed entitlements.
The group further told the President that Governor Otti no longer enjoys the “Peter Obi wave” that aided his electoral success in 2023, claiming that pensioners, civil servants and many political actors who supported him have since withdrawn their support.
They added that while the APC remains open to welcoming new members, it will not accept liabilities. According to them, any open alignment between Otti and President Tinubu could cost him what remains of his support base, which they claim is largely drawn from supporters of Mr. Peter Obi.
They also alleged that while supporters of Obi regularly attack the President online, Governor Otti has privately assured different interests that he can deliver victory for President Tinubu in the next election, an assurance the group described as unrealistic and a mere tactic for political survival.
The Abia APC Renaissance Group reiterated its commitment to strengthening the APC in Abia State and contributing to the growth and stability of the party nationwide.
