THE Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has told the newly sworn-in Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, not to abuse the grace given to him by God to serve Abians, but ensure he gives his best to the people of the state.
Obi who stated this during the post inauguration thanksgiving service held at the Trademore event center, Umuahia, with the theme, “The Lord has done great things for us”, charged Governor Alex Otti to ensure he hears the cries of the poor masses, so that after four years, the state would be holding another thanksgiving service, for his re-election.
The LP Presidential candidate stated that Gov Otti should be conscious of the fact that the grace of God played a significant role in his emergence and therefore, he should strive to meet the needs of the people.
He said the Abia Governor should make all his actions, budgeting and planning, people oriented, because the people have suffered enough.
“Let the poor be happy, the workers, pensioners be given a sense of belonging, enough of running down of the poor”.
Meanwhile, Obi, charged Nigerians to always pray for the nation, stating that the country is still criminalize by people who do not have conscience, insisting that it’s only prayers that could salvage it.
Responding, Governor Alex Otti said that his administration would pursue policies and programmes that would create prosperity and security for the people of Abia.
“We have come to work for Abia people and we have promised to lead them out of poverty.
“We have not come to work for the rich because they will always find their way”, he added.
Governor Otti, however, thanked the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi for his advice on good governance and promised to live up to expectation.
Earlier, the Lead Pastor, Streams of Joy International, Pastor Jerry Eze, in his sermon, described the event as an indication that the state had embarked on “a journey to wholeness” and prayed God to grant the state government the capability to record significant achievements at all levels to drive socioeconomic growth in the state.
The Special thanksgiving service which featured special prayers for Governor Alex Otti, his Deputy, Engr Ikechukwu Emetu and Abia State, attracted the presence of the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Prescilla Otti, wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adaeze Emetu, Secretary to the Abia State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu, the Head of Service of Abia State, Sir Onyii Wamah, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Dr. Caleb Ajagba, Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants to the Governor, the State Chairman of the Labour Party, Chief Ceekay Igara, Permanent Secretaries, church leaders , Labour party stakeholders among others.
