The Abia State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suspended two of its national officers, Hon. Nkem Ukandu of Uzuakoli Ward in Bende Local Government Area and Mr. Kalu Kalu Agu of Ania Ward, Akanu in Ohafia, for violating the party’s constitution.
In separate letters dated September 10, 2025, and signed by the ADC ward chairmen, Mr. Onyekachi Okeugo of Uzuakoli and Engr. Obinna Johnson Okonkwo of Ania ward, said the officers were suspended for unlawfully announcing the purported suspension of the State Chairman, Hon. Don Norman Obinna.
Both officers had earlier been summoned before their ward disciplinary panels but failed to justify their actions.
The review and recommendation of the disciplinary committees found them guilty of breaching Article 22, Sections 1, 2, and 8 of the party’s constitution. Their conducts were deemed to constitute gross misconduct, bringing the party into disrepute, causing contempt and ridicule, and promoting disaffection among members.
Accordingly, the duo has been suspended from all party activities and privileges with immediate effect, pending further investigations and barred from representing the party, attending official meetings, or using party resources during the suspension period.
However, they retain the right to submit a formal written response or appeal to the disciplinary committee within seven days of receiving the notice.
The ADC emphasized that the decision was necessary to uphold discipline, unity, and public trust in line with the constitution.
It could be recalled that the matter arose from the unauthorized declaration of suspension of the Abia State ADC Chairman at the Nobic Event Center in Aba on August 22, 2025, coupled with the dissemination of false information against the state leadership and repeated disregard for disciplinary committee invitations.
