Refrain From Actions Capable Of Disrupting Public Peace In Bende By Charles Chidiebere

Peace represents a state of tranquility, free from conflict and disruption. More especially, peace is essential for the protection of lives and property, it forms the foundation for meaningful economic activity. No responsible government, at any level, should condone actions that directly or indirectly threaten public peace, safety, law, and order.

It is therefore deeply concerning that a sub national government would watch while certain unruly elements within its ranks attempt to carelessly escalate partisan politics to the point of directly confronting the Federal Government. Such behavior is reckless and unsustainable, to say the least. Challenging the authority of Federal Government is not only ill-advised, but also a battle that cannot be won.

Notably, the long-abandoned 9.6 km Nkpa Afor Umuda Road that was left untouched for over 100 years was recently fully reconstructed, including Eme bridge and critical erosion control components. The intervention is a Federal Government project attracted by the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, during his first tenure as the spokesperson of the House of Representatives.

Unfortunately and sadly too, a portion of the newly reconstructed road, specifically around the bridge was discovered by Deputy Speaker’s team not to be properly completed according to acceptable design standards. This prompted Rt. Hon. Kalu, known for his commitment to quality and standards, to demand that the contractor return to site for corrective work. Furthermore, legal action would be pursued against the site supervisor , one Architect Uzohu, who as the consultant, prematurely approved the job completion certificate without the expected due diligence .

Although funding from the Ecological Fund office is yet to be approved due to ongoing institutional reorganisation, Rt. Hon kalu took it upon himself to secure alternative funding through the Deputy Speaker’s office to immediately repair the defective sections of the road. As at now, work is currently ongoing at the site in line with the original design standards.

It is therefore, bad politics and affront on the Federal Government of Nigeria and the peace-loving people of Bende Federal Constituency for any individual or groups to attempt to organise disruptive protest capable of breaching public peace of nde Bende when corrective repairs are currently ongoing. Hence repair is already happening , there is absolutely no justification for actions that could disturb public order. It is not the first time a construction site will fall below the expected standard, as long as there are steps taken to fix it , why use it as a political tool by a labour led government to disrupt the peace of the people of Nkpa ?

Parents and guardians are strongly advised not to allow their children or wards to be exploited by political actors seeking to sow unrest. Bende has remained largely secure amidst the wider insecurity affecting the state, and nde Bende are determined to preserve that peace. Any effort to incite public disorder in Bende will not be tolerated. Hope the security agencies have taken note of this new ugly political leadership style of fighting to suffocate every thing from the opposition.
