2027: ADC Gathers Momentum, Urges Political Leaders to Join Coalition or Risk Defeat
As political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has convened a major coalition meeting in Abia State, calling on political leaders across Nigeria to align with its growing alliance or risk losing relevance and re-election.
With several political heavyweights considering the ADC as a central platform for national political renewal, the party is gaining traction as a coalition force determined to bring democratic dividends to Nigerians.
Recently, notable figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai and the former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, held discussions on forming an alliance to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which they accused of fostering hardship and misgovernance.
During a political summit titled, “Strengthening Alliances for a Better Nigeria”, held at the Kolping Society in Umuahia, Abia State, the Abia ADC Chairman, Don Norman Obinna (Agu Ibeku), formally declared the ADC as the platform for the coalition’s resurgence.
According to Obinna, the coalition goes beyond political realignment, he said it’s a response to years of failed governance, economic decline and mass disenfranchisement under the current APC led administration.
“ADC is now the adopted coalition party to correct the failures imposed by APC. With soaring unemployment, a rapidly depreciating naira, and a disgracefully low minimum wage, our mission is clear; restore hope, eradicate hunger, and put Nigeria back on a path of prosperity,” Obinna stated. He emphasized the coalition’s aim to liberate both Abia State and the nation through visionary, accountable,/ and equitable leadership.
Highlighting the importance of integrity in governance, Obinna urged Governor Alex Otti and other credible aspirants to join the coalition or risk political defeat in 2027. “Since 1999, my vision has been to bring people of integrity into leadership, those capable of rebuilding Nigeria through justice and fairness,” he said.
In his presentation titled “Stakeholder Engagement as the Nexus to Good Governance in an Evolving Democratic Ecosystem,” Professor Uzoma Emmanuel Afamefuna, stressed the necessity of good governance as a solution to Nigeria’s pressing issues. He described good governance as a shared responsibility and emphasized Nigeria’s untapped potential, which he believed could be harnessed through unity and cooperation.
Also speaking at the event, Comrade Nelson Nanna Nwafor, Founder of the Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy and Development (FENRAD), urged the ADC to define strong ideological principles to guide the coalition. He pointed leadership equity, internal democracy, power sharing, and conflict resolution as essential pillars of the alliance.
Nwafor, however, called for the prioritization of youth and women’s interests within the coalition’s framework.
In their remarks, former APGA Governorship Aspirant Sir Chikwe Udensi, who was represented by Don Norman Obinna, and the 2023 ADC Umuahia North State Constituency candidate, Rev. Blessed Amalabu, both endorsed the coalition. They called on Nigerians to unite in building the nation of their dreams.
Rev. Amalabu cautioned against external influences that could create division and called on the ADC national leadership to ensure only credible candidates are fielded in 2027. He reaffirmed his loyalty to the party.
In a separate interview, Don Norman Obinna reiterated that poor governance at all levels has led to widespread underdevelopment, and that it is every citizen’s duty to hold leaders accountable. He stated that the coalition seeks to elect a people-driven leader committed to transparency and genuine reform.
Obinna issued a stern warning to Governor Otti and other political leaders to join the ADC coalition or risk being swept aside in 2027.
